Welcome to NEEEF

The North East Environmental Education Forum aims are to: Enhance awareness and understanding of our natural and historic environment through education and interpretation.

HISTORY

The North East Environmental Education Forum (NEEEF) grew out of Tyne and Wear Environmental Education Forum which was set up in 1975.  In the 32 years since then, the Forum has provided a link between environmental professionals and North East schools, developed environmental awareness through seminars and produced new resources through publication.

THE HEART OF NEEEF

The heart and, indeed, the mind of NEEEF has always been its Steering Group of multi-skilled environmental professionals.  Over the years, these volunteer professionals have innovated in both the environmental and the educational fields.  For example, in the 1988, we worked with the Black Environmental Network in exploring inclusivity in the environmental sector and, in both the 1980s and 1990s we anticipated current concerns by raising the local profile of Climate Change.

OUR STEERING GROUP

Currently, the Steering Group has a range of personal skills that include environmental education teaching/training, heritage interpretation, historic building conservation, environmental research and environmental graphic design.  Indeed, the strengths of NEEEF now lie very much in the members of the steering Group themselves, working both as individuals and together as NEEEF.

THE FUTURE

Well, we are now innovating again.

  1. we have become a web-based organisation to be more resource efficient and to increase our outreach, with our regular newsletter turning into a flyer advertising any new information, resources, articles and news appearing on this web site.
  2. each Steering Group member has their own specialist web pages so that they can promote and develop their own particular concerns, whilst still retaining a capacity to act within the NEEEF team.
  3. we have set up a new production wing to develop commissioning in concert with other kindred agencies in the environmental sector. This new wing concentrates on heritage, both natural and man-made.  It goes under the name of The Heritage Partnership Group (THPG) and it is to be found on this web site too.

THE CHALLENGE

We feel we understand the environmental and heritage challenges of the 21st century and are innovating to meet them.  We hope you will continue to be alongside so we can face them together.
